Erectile Dysfunction Treatment Plan (Tadalafil)

This treatment plan outlines the dosage, administration, expected benefits, and potential side effects of tadalafil for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). Tadalafil is a prescription medication used to treat erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. It belongs to a class of medications known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors.

INSTRUCTIONS:

For treatment of erectile dysfunction, you have been prescribed:

Tadalafil, to be taken as directed by your provider (either as needed or once daily).

General guidance:

As-needed dosing:

  • Take tadalafil 30–60 minutes before sexual activity
  • Effects may last up to 24–36 hours
  • Do not take more than one dose per day

Daily dosing:

  • Take tadalafil once daily at the same time each day
  • Allows for more spontaneous sexual activity without planning doses

Additional guidance:

  • May be taken with or without food
  • Sexual stimulation is required for the medication to be effective
  • Follow your provider’s specific dosing instructions carefully

IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING YOUR TREATMENT:

Do not take more than the prescribed dose.

Do not use tadalafil with nitrate medications (such as nitroglycerin), as this combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.

Use caution when taking medications for blood pressure or prostate conditions, as tadalafil may enhance their effects.

Common side effects may include headache, flushing, nasal congestion, muscle aches, back pain, or indigestion.

Avoid excessive alcohol consumption, as it may increase side effects such as dizziness or low blood pressure.

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience:

  • An erection lasting longer than 4 hours (priapism)
  • Chest pain or severe dizziness
  • Sudden vision or hearing loss

  • Uncontrolled low or high blood pressure
  • History of stroke or heart attack
  • Severe liver or kidney disease
  • Certain eye conditions (such as retinitis pigmentosa)
  • Unexplained chest pain or shortness of breath
