Pimecrolimus Topical Cream 1% for Eczema/Psoriasis

This treatment plan outlines the application, dosage, expected benefits, and potential side effects of pimecrolimus topical cream for inflammatory skin conditions. Please read this plan carefully, along with the manufacturer’s information provided with your medication, for complete details regarding precautions, interactions, and other important safety information.

Pimecrolimus is a non-steroidal topical medication used to treat conditions such as eczema (atopic dermatitis). It works by reducing inflammation and calming the immune response in the skin without the side effects commonly associated with topical corticosteroids.

INSTRUCTIONS:

For treatment of your skin condition, you have been prescribed:

Pimecrolimus topical cream (30g tube)

General guidance:

  • Apply a thin layer to affected areas 1-2 times daily as directed
  • Gently rub into the skin until fully absorbed
  • Use only on affected areas
  • Wash hands before and after application (unless treating the hands)
  • Do not cover with tight or occlusive dressings  
  • Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes.

IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING YOUR TREATMENT:

Use only as prescribed. Do not apply more frequently than directed.

A mild burning or warming sensation at the application site is common, especially during the first few days of use.

Avoid excessive sun exposure and use sunscreen on treated areas when appropriate.

Do not apply to infected skin unless directed by your provider.

This medication is typically used as a second-line treatment and for areas where steroid use is not appropriate.

If your condition does not improve or worsens, follow up with your provider.

CONDITIONS:
