Topical Minoxidil / Azelaic Acid for Hair Loss
OVERVIEW:
This treatment plan outlines the application, dosage, expected benefits, and potential side effects of topical minoxidil / azelaic acid solution (5% / 12.5%) for hair loss treatment. Please read this plan carefully, along with the information provided with your medication, for complete details regarding precautions, interactions, and other important safety information.
This compounded topical solution combines minoxidil, a well-established hair growth treatment, with azelaic acid, which may help support scalp health and reduce factors associated with hair thinning.
Together, these ingredients work to promote hair regrowth, improve scalp condition, and support healthier hair follicles.
INSTRUCTIONS:
For treatment of hair loss, you have been prescribed:
Minoxidil / Azelaic Acid 5% / 12.5% topical solution (60 mL)
General guidance:
- Apply once or twice daily as directed by your provider
- Apply to clean, dry scalp in areas of thinning hair
- Use the prescribed amount (typically 1 mL per application)
- Gently spread across the affected area, do not rinse after application
- Wash hands thoroughly after use
- Allow the solution to fully dry before styling hair or going to bed
- Avoid contact with eyes, face, and other sensitive areas.
Hair regrowth is gradual. Increased shedding may occur during the first several weeks as new growth cycles begin. Visible improvement typically occurs after 3–6 months of consistent use.
IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING YOUR TREATMENT:
Use only as prescribed. Do not apply more than directed.
Consistent daily use is required for effectiveness.
Common side effects may include mild scalp irritation, dryness, itching, or redness.
Unwanted hair growth may occur if the medication spreads to other areas.
Avoid applying to broken, irritated, or sunburned skin.
Minoxidil may rarely cause systemic side effects such as dizziness, rapid heart rate, or swelling. If these occur, discontinue use and seek medical attention.
Do not stop treatment abruptly without consulting your provider, as hair loss may resume.
